About this service
Builders Waste in Bury and Greater Manchester
Construction waste behaves differently to household waste because of density. A van filled with bagged household rubbish and a van filled with rubble occupy the same space and weigh completely different amounts, and the disposal cost follows the weight. This is why builders waste is quoted on weight rather than volume, and why a quote given over the phone needs a reasonably honest estimate of how much rubble there actually is.
It also has to be separated, and one material in particular. Plasterboard contains gypsum, and when gypsum is landfilled alongside biodegradable waste it can break down to produce hydrogen sulphide. For that reason plasterboard cannot go into a general waste load and has to be kept apart and sent to a facility that recycles it. Keeping a separate pile for it on site costs nothing and avoids the whole load being reclassified.
Inert material is the other group worth separating. Brick, block, concrete, hardcore and clean soil are classed as inert, they do not react or decompose, and they can often be crushed and reused as aggregate. Kept clean and separate they are among the cheaper materials to dispose of. Mixed through timber and plasterboard, they stop being inert waste and start being mixed waste, which costs considerably more.
The material we will not take under any circumstances is asbestos. It was used extensively in British construction until it was banned outright in 1999, which means any property built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it, commonly in garage roof sheeting, insulation board, textured coatings and old floor tiles. It must be identified by a competent person and removed by a licensed contractor. If you are not certain what something is, stop and have it tested rather than bagging it up.
What we take
- Brick, block, concrete and hardcore
- Soil and excavation spoil
- Timber, skirting and joinery offcuts
- Plasterboard, kept separate
- Bathroom and kitchen strip-outs
- Tiles, plaster and bagged rubble
What we cannot take

- Contaminated ground and tar-bound material
- Liquid cement, resins and uncured adhesives
How the collection runs
- 1
Tell us what needs clearing
Call or send the form with a rough idea of what you have. A photo on your phone is usually quicker than describing it.
- 2
We quote for the job
A price based on the volume, the weight and the access, given before any work starts, with no obligation to go ahead.
- 3
We load and clear
Our team does the lifting and carrying, including from upstairs or round the back, then tidies the area afterwards.
- 4
It is sorted and recycled
The load is separated so that metal, wood, cardboard and green waste go for recycling rather than straight to landfill.
